Moving is horrible as we all know. It's been 4 months and only now are we settling in a bit. What was most annoying is that our wonderful, mellow dog, Sam, became a digger, a chewer through fences; untrustworthy whenever you left the house, and all because. . .like a lot of us, he can't adapt to change. We found that since we live on the edge of town, kids are shooting BB guns in the field behind our house. All loud noises used to scare him, but now he's almost crazy with fear.
So we went to the local Big R ranch store and bought a "calming collar". They have everything for animals there-you name it. It's basically aromatherapy mixed with some kind of pheromone that mother dogs use to calm their puppies. It's working! We still have to watch him, but he's more content, and wagging his tail more. Even the thunder today didn't send him into conniptions.
